From Section 1, Title 4 of the United States Code:

• The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

• The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

• When the flag of the United States is displayed from a staff projecting horizontally or at an angle from the window sill, balcony, or front of a building, the union of the flag should be placed at the peak of the staff unless the flag is at half-staff. When the flag is suspended over a sidewalk from a rope extending from a house to a pole at the edge of the sidewalk, the flag should be hoisted out, union first, from the building.

• The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.

• The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.

• The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

Including a trip to the boonies of southeastern Tennessee, and a visit to beautiful Ruby Falls, just outside of Chattanooga. We promise exciting new photos and posts coming soon, including some stuff from a new poster to CPD.

Cool stuff found elsewhere online:
The Reverse Graffiti Project! – instead of cleaning up graffiti by repainting or sandblasting, these folks are turning tags into art.

Until then… here’s a thought~

this project aims to be a visual storybook documenting cities – and the lifeforce and people who make them alive. the agony and the ecstacy. the beautiful, the mundane, the silly and the bizarre.

Cities have their own rhythm and hustle, they can be anything you want them to be. Sometimes the city seems harsh, mean, gritty; everyone seems angry and in a rush, or out to get each other. Sometimes the city seems hopeless and sprawling, lonely and isolated - millions of people constantly passing you by, but no one to reach out to. But sometimes the city is amazing – a place where people come together and collaborate and celebrate – a place of endless possibilities. I’d like to think this website is a place of endless possibilities to explore all of those things … and everything in-between. A tall order?

if you have ideas or would like to contribute to this project, please get in touch.

I’m still figuring out exactly what I’d like to be posting, and tweaking out the site design, so some things may change a little bit here and there until it feels right. So hang tight or send your feedback.

For now, I’ll leave you with an old, but favorite photograph, taken in the early ’00s in new york city around the Christmas holidays. I like to think it captures the feeling that anything can be possible, with a little optimism and a little luck.
